Upstart HELOC: a streamlined online HELOC up to $250K

Complete a HELOC online application and check your rate without affecting your credit score.

Upstart HELOC

The Upstart quick HELOC process helps homeowners explore a credit line from $26,000 to $250,000 without immediately replacing their current mortgage or committing to a hard credit inquiry.

With an online HELOC, nearly all applicants can skip a traditional home appraisal. Most borrowers can also complete document signing with a remote online notary, reducing the need for in person appointments.

Is the Upstart HELOC reliable?

The Upstart home equity line of credit is offered through Upstart Mortgage, LLC, doing business as Upstart Home Lending.

The company identifies itself under NMLS number 2443873 and provides access to licensing information through NMLS Consumer Access.

Homeowners who apply for a HELOC online receive clear disclosures about soft and hard credit inquiries, APR limits, fees, and property insurance.

Checking a rate uses a soft inquiry, while accepting the rate and continuing with the application triggers a hard inquiry that may affect the applicant’s credit score.

Main characteristics of the Upstart HELOC

  • Credit limits from $26,000 to $250,000
  • Initial advance APRs from 6.52% to 18.00% as of June 2026
  • Variable line APR with a rate fixed separately for each draw
  • No annual fee, prepayment penalty, or redraw fee
  • No appraisal required for nearly all applicants

Disadvantages

  • The HELOC is secured by the borrower’s home, and the overall APR is variable
  • A one time origination fee from 0% to 4.99% of the approved credit limit may apply

Fixed rates on individual draws

Unlike a traditional fixed rate HELOC that may lock one rate across the entire line, the Upstart HELOC has a variable APR tied to the Prime Rate plus or minus a margin. Its APR will not be lower than 3.99% or higher than 18.00%.

Each time a homeowner makes a draw from this home equity line of credit, the applicable rate is fixed on the date of that draw. Monthly payments remain predictable for existing draws, although taking another draw can change the total monthly payment.
